Russia Preparing for Winter Olympic Games in Sochi
The coastal cluster, located in Sochi’s Imeretinsky Valley on the coast of the Black Sea, includes Fisht Olympic Stadium and the Games’ indoor venues - all set within a walking distance from one another (two ice arenas for hockey, skating centre, ice palace, arena for curling, two training arenas).
The mountain cluster in Krasnaya Polyana was designed for outdoor competitions (biathlon, cross-country skiing, Alpine skiing, snowboarding, ski jumping, bobsleigh, luge, skeleton).
The clusters have a rail and bus connection with each other and with Sochi, Adler and other towns.
It appears the Olympics-2014 will be eventful and set up lots of new records. Some records can already be named: the tentative list of participants contains 2800 athletes from 86 countries - both numbers are record high. Also the number of medals is record-setting: 98 sets of medals are prepared, which is by 12 sets more than in Vancouver-2010.
With an average February temperature of 42⁰F and a humid subtropical climate, Sochi will be the warmest place to have hosted Winter Olympic Games so far. However if you come to Sochi Olympics and would like to experience true Russian winter, you can also plan to visit Moscow and tour St. Petersburg after the Olympic Games and participate in not only sports, but also cultural life of Russia
